Privacy Policy: Word Drop
Effective October 25, 2026
This policy explains what information is collected when you play Word Drop, a word game for Android, iPhone and iPad published by 5amStudios, who collects it, and the choices you have.
Summary
- The game creates an online player for you so your scores can appear on its leaderboards. This runs on Unity Gaming Services. You don't make an account or give an email address.
- Achievements are provided by Google Play Games Services on Android and by Apple Game Center on iPhone and iPad. If you're signed in to either, its player name is shown on the leaderboards.
- The game shows ads, provided by Unity. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it asks before ads may be personalized; everywhere, you can turn personalized ads off in Settings. On iPhone and iPad, iOS also asks your permission before the game's ad partners may track you.
- 5amStudios does not sell your information.
- You can delete your online data at any time, in the game or by email.
Information stored on your device
Your records, items, rewards, unlocked achievements, settings and your choice about personalized ads are saved on your device so the game can remember your progress. The word lists are part of the game, and the words you play are checked on your device. Uninstalling the game removes this information.
Online leaderboards: Unity Gaming Services
The leaderboards are provided by Unity Gaming Services, a service of Unity Technologies. When the game first goes online it signs in to Unity with a random player ID. Unity stores, for that player:
- the random player ID
- the name shown on the leaderboards: your Google Play Games gamer name or Game Center name if you're signed in, otherwise a name Unity makes up
- your best scores and best words for each game mode and language, and your scores in the daily challenge
- the link between your online player and your Google Play Games or Game Center account, if you're signed in, so the same player comes back if you reinstall the game or play on another device
Your leaderboard name, scores and best words are visible to other players. To run the service, Unity also receives technical information such as your IP address and basic details about your device and the game. Unity's handling of this information is described in the Unity Privacy Policy.
Achievements on Android: Google Play Games Services
If your Android device is signed in to Google Play Games, the game signs in automatically. Google processes your Play Games profile (such as your player ID and gamer name) and the achievements you unlock. The game receives your gamer name and a one-time code from Google, which it passes to Unity to link your Play Games account to your online player.
5amStudios does not receive your Google account email address or password. Google's handling of this information is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Achievements on iPhone and iPad: Apple Game Center
Signing in to Game Center is optional. If your device is signed in, the game signs in automatically; otherwise you can sign in from the game's Settings. Apple processes your Game Center profile (such as your player ID and name) and the achievements you unlock. The game receives your Game Center name and a signed player ID from Apple, which it passes to Unity to link your Game Center account to your online player.
5amStudios does not receive your Apple Account email address or password. Apple's handling of this information is described in the Apple Privacy Policy.
Advertising: Unity LevelPlay and Unity Ads
The game is free and shows ads: an ad between games now and then, and ads you can choose to watch for a reward. They are provided by Unity Technologies through Unity LevelPlay and Unity Ads. To show ads, measure them, analyze how they perform and prevent fraud, Unity receives information such as your IP address and the approximate location worked out from it, your device's advertising ID (the Android advertising ID, or the IDFA on iPhone and iPad), an ID for this installation or, on iPhone and iPad, the vendor ID (IDFV), basic details about your device and the game, how you use the game, and how you interact with the ads. Unity's ad quality tools also collect crash, performance and other diagnostic information about the ads, which isn't linked to you.
If you allow personalized ads, Unity and its advertising partners may use this information to show you ads that suit your interests. If you don't, you still see ads, but they aren't personalized, and the game tells Unity not to sell or share your information for targeted advertising. Unity's handling of this information is described in the Unity Game Player and App User Privacy Policy.
When we ask. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the game asks before any ads load, and ads are only personalized if you say yes. To know whether to ask, the game checks which country your connection comes from by contacting 5amStudios's website, which is served by Cloudflare. Cloudflare works out the country from your IP address; 5amStudios doesn't keep the IP address or the country. The game remembers only whether your region needs to be asked. If the check can't be made, the game goes by your device's time zone. Elsewhere, ads are personalized unless you turn this off.
On iPhone and iPad. Before any ads load, iOS asks whether Word Drop may track you across apps and websites owned by other companies (App Tracking Transparency). The advertising ID is only available to Unity if you allow this. If you don't, you still see ads, but they aren't personalized. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the game asks its own question first, and iOS only asks if you say yes to it.
Your choices
- Delete your online data. In the game, open Settings and tap Delete my online data. This deletes your online player and its scores. You can also ask by email, even without the game installed: see Delete your Word Drop data.
- Personalized ads. In the game, open Settings and use Personalized ads to change your choice at any time. On Android you can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's settings. On iPhone and iPad you can allow or stop tracking for Word Drop in the Settings app, under Privacy & Security, then Tracking; if tracking is off, choosing to allow personalized ads in the game takes you there.
- Google Play Games. Your profile, its visibility and your Play Games data for this game are managed in the Google Play Games app settings.
- Game Center. You can sign out of Game Center, or manage your profile and its visibility, in the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad, under Game Center.
- Playing offline. The game can be played without a connection. Scores made offline are sent the next time it goes online.
- Uninstalling. Removing the game deletes the progress stored on your device.
Children
Word Drop is intended for a general audience. 5amStudios does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and have a question about your child's use of the game, contact [email protected].
Keeping and deleting data
Your online player and scores are kept until you delete them. When you delete them, in the game or by email, they are removed from the leaderboards and Unity deletes the player. Email requests are handled within 30 days. Information held by Google or Apple is kept under their own policies, and information Unity receives for ads under Unity's.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
