WHY RECORD AT 5AM STUDIOS?
We Have Talented and Knowledgable Engineering/Production Staff
All the equipment in the world (and we've got alot) is still only as good as the hands and ears that are working on it, and at 5am Studios we have extremely talented and knowledgable staff with years and years of recording experience. We work with dozens of producers, engineers, and studio musicians as well, including Grammy award winners, annd can enable any list of such to work on your project.
Our Client List Consists of Top Professional Recording Artists
On some other studio's websites you may notice a long list of clients that includes things like 'Chamber of Commerce' and 'County School District PTA', 'Dr. Soandso, Orthodontist' (????) And this is the type of place you'd like to have record your next record, the fruit of your creative efforts and perhaps your entire future in the entertainment business?
We're not court reporters, we're a recording studio, and that means entertaiment! We don't do elevator music, we do real music and entertainment projects! Everyone that works at 5am Studios is both a musician and an producer/engineer and we work with real bands and artists, all day every day, all year long.
We Can Create The Sound That's In Your Head! With our extensive list of top quality equipment, we have the ability to create the sound that's in your head, whether that be guitar, bass, vocal, or drums - we can make it happen! From our extensive array of musical instruments and amplifiers to our massive effects collection including our new Eventide H8000FW, we can creat the sound of your dreams, no matter how wild!
We have one the biggest and incredible selections of music gear and recording equipment.
Take a look at our GEAR LIST. You will see immediately that it is huge, not just in terms of recording gear but also musical instruments. And not only is it huge, it is not filled with loads of cheap consumer/prosumer types of gear, but the high end gear found in any top flight recording studio from New York to Nashville.
This equipment is instrumental (no pun intended) in getting you the sounds you desire, and in the end compiling all the sounds into a recording that sounds PROFESSIONAL. Even if you're doing a demo - do you want it to sound like a demo? Of course not, you want it to sound like any CD you'd buy in the store, or download from iTunes, and that is the result we strive for and achieve with each and every project that comes into the studio.
We Have Very Good Rates
At 5am Studios we work with our clients and recording artists to bring in a professional sounding recording within their budget. Now, we're not the cheapest studio in town, since as formentioned we're in a real commercial recording facility and not in the converted back room of someone's house with a computer and a couple of microphones..., but at the same time we're certainly not the most expensive place to record either.
We cater to outside producers and engineers
5am Studios has gone to great lengths to design and implement the studio in a way that ensures extreme ease of use for outside producers and engineers to come in and record. This extends to our patchbay routing and wiring setup, to our placements of microphones and cables in a convenient to use manner. We also have gear tech and interns available to assist in your sessions to help with any setups and/or questions you may have. We make your recording experience easy!

We Have The Real Equipment Needed To Make Your Music Sound Incredible
Subtitle: "ProToole 'LE' is NOT REAL STUDIO ProTools":
If we were to offer to you a Hyundai, and explain that because it has four wheels and an engine that it is really a 'Ferrari LE' would you believe us? And given the choice, would you then take the Hyundai over a real Ferrari if a real Ferrari were offered to you?
In the music business, performance counts. There are a list of reasons a mile long why a ProTools HD3 system (like the one in our studio) costs literally 20 times as much as the ProTools LE/002/Mbox/etc system you can find in any typical music store, the same as the list of reasons why a Ferrari costs 20 times as much as a Hyundai at any car dealer.
There is some extreme creativity being shown in the marketing of today's lower end recording systems to the general musicequipment buying public, claiming that you can 'make records at home', but the reason that ProTools HD is the #1 choice in any high end recording studio, because it makes records that sound like records! The key is in it's phase accurate lock of all tracks, with all effects, and all outboard gear. Come try it out for yourself, even if you record at home or recorded previously at another studio and have been unhappy with the results of your tracks and mixes. Bring your tracks to 5am Studios to be mixed and put it up against the best mix you've been able to get previously, and you'll be amazed at the difference, especially when combining our array of top quality outboard gear.
We Have A Real Live Room With Real Acoustics Including High Ceilings
Have you ever tried to record something in your bedroom, or in a small room, or in a space that has acoustic foam everywhere and carpet on the walls? It didn't come out sounding like the tracks you hear on your favorite album did it? Especially once you recorded all the instruments and vocals and stacked them all together.
This is because just about everyone of your favorite albums was recorded in a studio room that has been designed for recording! This usually includes high ceilings, wood floors, and a large enough cubic footage to let the sound waves spread out and come back to the microhpones in a way that positively reinforces the sound you are recording.
In a small room not designed for recording, the sound bounces around so much that it comes back to the microphone full of phasing and comb-filtering. Sometimes you can't hear this when you listen to just one track or instrument, but put them all together and it just doesn't sound 'right', and this is due to the room. The same can be said for a room that is too dampened, as in order to avoid the phasing and comb-filtering effect many small studios over-treat their rooms with foam and even carpet on the walls!
This results in a room that sounds too 'dead', and instead of a positive or negative reflection you get none at all. Then when you put all the tracks together it again doesn't sound right, as all the life has been removed from your recording, and even the best reverb unit isn't able to put that back in.
The solution is to record in a real live room! At 5am Studios we have a large live room with high ceilings and wood floors, and the types of acoustic treatments needed to tune the space as needed. The result is recordings that come back sounding full of life, the result of a room large enough to enable positive reinforcement of the reflecting sound waves.
Of course there's times when the track or style of music may call for recording in a small space void of reflections, and for that we have our whisper room sound-proof booth, which is always there as an option, but you should never be forced to confine your music to only such a space.
We Have The Most Technologically Advanced Headphone Monitoring System Available
Whether or not you have been in a recording studio, any musician knows that the most important thing when performing is the ability to hear yourself, as well the other music and musicians, in a balanced way that lets you put forth the most perfect performance possible.
At most recording studios (and you'll concur have you been in some) the engineer usually needs to setup your headphone mix for you, and anytime and everytime you need to hear more of yourself, or less of the other music, you need to stop and ask the engineer for 'more of this' or 'less of that'.
This wastes valuable recording time and results in a headphone mix for you that never turns out quite right, since it would be like when you're driving to have to ask someone else to constantly turn the radio up or down or select your favorite station, even though you're driving! This hurts your performance and often results in frustration of never having got it 'right'.
At 5am Studios when it comes to your headphone mix, you're driving and you're in control! Each musician has their own headphone mixer unit directly in front of them with up to 16 individual channels, and should you want to hear more yourself and less of the drums or guitars, etc., you simply reach out at anytime and turn them up or down to your liking, and you can create your perfect and personalized headphone mix.
Now, some studios do have systems that resemble ours, but there are some unique differences. With our system, not only can you adjust the volume, but you can also adjust the panning (our units are stereo!) and you can save your mixes, for example if you need to come back another day to work on the same project, you'll pick up exactly where you left off, no need to configure your headphone mix again upon your retrun!
Our system also supports up to 16 channels of audio (unlike the typical 4 or 5 at any other studio). This means that you have control over every aspect of every instrument, and we can arrange groupings for you as well. For example when recording drums, the drummer can have individual control over how he hears each drum in his headphones, right down to being able to turn up the snare but turn down the kick, while everyone else in the band simply has one knob that says 'drums' and doesn't have to worry about that level of detail.
Additionally in larger arrangements where there may be many overdubs of guitars, instruments, vocals, and backing vocals, with our 16 channel system you'll have unique control over how you hear all the individual parts, as well as how loud you hear yourself in relation.
We of course can always setup the mixes for you as well, as recording is all about options, and we like you to have all the options at 5am Studios!
